The Red Sox haven't provided any recent updates on the status for Crawford (forearm), who is expected to remain on the injured list for the rest of the season, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
The Red Sox announced around the All-Star break that Crawford had resumed playing catch at a distance of approximately 100 feet, but news has been scarce on the right-hander ever since. After his 2025 season came to an early end due to right wrist surgery, Crawford was further setback in the spring by a bout with the flu. He opened the season on the injured list and appeared to be in line for a brief absence, but he was pulled off a rehab assignment in mid-April after experiencing right flexor irritation. Crawford then hit another snag in his recovery in early June, when interim manager Chad Tracy revealed that the 30-year-old experienced renewed tightness in his forearm. Though Crawford is under club control through 2028, he could be a non-tender candidate this winter after having essentially two straight seasons lost to injury.

Red Sox's Johan Oviedo: Resumes facing hitters

Oviedo (elbow) threw a live batting practice session Friday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Oviedo secured a spot on the Red Sox's Opening Day roster, but he missed out on a rotation spot and began the season in the bullpen. He made one 3.2-inning appearance March 30 but hasn't pitched since, as he's been on the shelf for more than five months while recovering from a right flexor strain. Now that he's finally facing hitters again, Oviedo could be close to a rehab assignment. He'll need multiple appearances in the minors to knock off rust, so he may not be a realistic candidate to rejoin the Red Sox bullpen until the final week of September.

White provided all of the club's offense from the ninth spot in the batting order, launching a three-run blast off Kyle Bradish in the second inning. Tolle yielded a run in the first inning and then dominated, throwing 70 of 91 pitches for strikes with 17 whiffs. The rookie southpaw tallied his third double-digit strikeout performance of the campaign, and he's now completed at least five frames in each of his nine second-half outings while recording four quality starts. Chapman was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and quieted the top of the Orioles' order to close the door. The veteran closer owns a 1.80 ERA in 20 second-half appearances and has now converted 17 straight save chances since his last blown save June 28. On the year, he's 33-for-35 in save opportunities with a 2.03 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 65:20 K:BB across 48.2 innings.

In a stint with the big-league club from mid-June to mid-July earlier this season, Eaton slashed just .125/.282/.281 with one homer, five RBI and two stolen bases over 14 games. He's been a bit better in the minors, posting a .756 OPS across 363 plate appearances while swiping 19 bags for Worcester. Eaton's call-up is a corresponding move to Ceddanne Rafaela (quadriceps) being placed on the 10-day IL.

Kiner-Falefa stroked a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning to account for Boston's final offense. Rafaela exited Wednesday's loss to Seattle due to what the Red Sox initially labeled as quad tightness. Though the Red Sox initially had optimism that the 25-year-old could avoid a stint on the IL, he'll end up going on the shelf after he was unable to play in any of the team's last three games. Boston recalled Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester to replace Rafaela on the active roster, though Eli White will ikely be the biggest beneficiary in terms of playing time.
