Orioles' Trey Gibson: Blanks Blue Jays in quality start
Gibson (2-3) picked up the win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Toronto, allowing three hits and two walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out seven.
In his first big-league start since June 30, Gibson took advantage of a demoralized Blue Jays squad that had been eliminated from playoff contention in the first half of the twin bill. The result was the best start of the 24-year-old righty's brief career, as he fired 65 of 92 pitches for strikes in his first quality start. He's struggled to find much consistency in 2026, either in the majors or at Triple-A, but with Trevor Rogers and Chris Bassitt both set to reach free agency this offseason, there could be a spot in the 2027 rotation for Gibson.

Orioles' Pete Alonso: Launches 41st homer
Alonso went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Blue Jays.
The first baseman took future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer deep in the fifth inning, Alonso's ninth homer in September and his 41st of the season. His first year with Baltimore has gone as well as the team could have hoped -- in addition to an .871 OPS that's tied for the second-best mark of his career, he's reached the 40-homer mark for the fourth time and the 100-RBI plateau for the fifth time. Alonso also needs to cross the plate just four more times to record his second season with 100-plus runs.

Orioles' Andrew Kittredge: Pockets 11th save
Kittredge recorded his 11th save of the season in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, giving up a hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.
The right-hander has remained in the late-inning mix even with Felix Bautista back in the fold, and Kittredge (two) and Rico Garcia (four) have split Baltimore's last six saves. Since the beginning of August, Kittredge has collected two wins, three holds and seven saves in 19 appearances with a 3.63 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB over 17.1 innings.

Orioles' Chris Bassitt: Collects ninth win
Bassitt (9-5) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.
It was something of a revenge game for veteran right-hander, as with the victory Bassitt helped eliminate his former club from playoff contention while keeping Baltimore's faint wild-card hopes alive. Bassitt has been on a roll to close out the 2026 regular season, winning five of his last six starts while posting a 3.63 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB over 34.2 innings.

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Officially recalled ahead of start
The Orioles recalled Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk in between games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. Gibson will start the second game of the twin bill.
Gibson returns for his eighth start (ninth appearance) for Baltimore this season. The 24-year-old right-hander has mostly struggled between Triple-A and the majors in 2026, though he finished his campaign with Norfolk on a high note, tossing five innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts against Charlotte on Sept. 18.

Orioles' Luis De Leon: Optioned Wednesday
The Orioles optioned De Leon to their spring training complex Wednesday.
De Leon recorded one strikeout and allowed two hits without conceding a run over two-thirds of an inning during the first game of Wednesday's twin bill against Toronto. He'll now be pushed off the active roster to make room for Trey Gibson, who was recalled to start the nightcap.

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Starting nightcap Wednesday
Gibson will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
The move is not yet official, and lineups for Game 2 are still pending, but Gibson might face a slightly lesser Toronto lineup after the Blue Jays were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a loss in the matinee. Gibson should nonetheless be considered a high-risk option given his mediocre numbers both in the majors (7.36 ERA, 1.91 WHIP) and at Norfolk (4.32 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) this season.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Gets PRP injection in shoulder
O'Neill was given a PRP injection in his injured right shoulder recently, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
O'Neill had already been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a strained right rotator cuff, but the goal of the injection is to speed along the healing process. He's fully expected to be ready to go in time for spring training. O'Neill slashed just .212/.300/.377 over 85 games for the Orioles this season, and he is set to make $16.5 million in 2027 in the final year of his three-year, $49.5 million contract.

Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Added to big-league roster
The Orioles recalled Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
He was just sent down this past weekend but is back to take the roster spot of the injured Samuel Basallo (concussion). Kjerstad is 4-for-19 with a 0:9 BB:K in 11 games for the Orioles this season and has slashed .289/.337/.462 with 11 home runs across 79 contests with Norfolk in 2026.

Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Season ended by concussion
The Orioles placed Basallo (concussion) on the 7-day injured list Wednesday.
Basallo had to be removed from Monday's game versus the Blue Jays after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask, and testing has determined he suffered a concussion. It will end the season of Basallo, who has also dealt with a nagging right shoulder injury during the second half. The 22-year-old will finish the 2026 campaign with a .222/.291/.406 batting line and 18 home runs over 112 contests. While Basallo is out, Carlos Narvaez will serve as the Orioles' primary catcher in the final days of the regular season.

Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Slated for wrist surgery
Holliday will undergo left wrist surgery next week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Holliday is dealing with a triangular fibrocartilage complex tear in the wrist. The current estimate points to Holliday needing 10 weeks to rehab, which would give him plenty of time to be ready ahead of spring training. Holliday was limited to only 98 games this season due to injury, slashing .229/.300/.340 in those contests.

Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Sitting out matinee
Basallo (head) is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.
Basallo had to be lifted from Monday's game versus the Blue Jays after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask. The Orioles are keeping a close eye on Basallo to see if he develops concussion symptoms, which leaves his status for the final week of the regular season in limbo. Carlos Narvaez will do the catching for Baltimore during Wednesday's matinee.

Orioles' Chris Bassitt: Tuesday's game postponed
Bassitt won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Blue Jays since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
The contest will be made up via a doubleheader Wednesday as the two teams conclude the season series in Baltimore. Bassitt will presumably start one of those contests in what should be his final appearance of the season. Since returning from back surgery in mid-August, the veteran right-hander has a 3.76 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB across 40.2 innings (seven starts).

Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Goes yard in three-hit effort
Henderson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple in Monday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.
Henderson rocketed a solo homer in the sixth inning as part of a three-hit effort. The shortstop is slashing .254/.342/.418 with two homers, two RBI and six runs across 18 September games. It's been an overall disappointing campaign for the 25-year-old, as he's hitting .227/.310/.408 with 24 homers, 59 RBI, 88 runs and 10 stolen bases in 155 contests.
