  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Royals' Seth Lugo: Poised to start Friday

Lugo (concussion) is expected to be reinstated from the 7-day injured list to start Friday against the Nationals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander landed on the shelf after being struck in the head by a comebacker during his June 10 start against Texas, but his stay on the injured list won't be a long one. Lugo felt good after recently throwing a bullpen session and shouldn't face any notable limitations in his first start back given the brevity of the absence.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Shane Bieber: Approaching next rehab start

Toronto announced that Bieber (elbow) will make another rehab start on Wednesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Bieber will commence another rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday which could be his third and final start before rejoining the big-league club. The 31-year-old is aiming for 75 pitches on Wednesday and Toronto will go from there to determine whether the right-hander is ready to make his season debut quite yet.

  • Hunter Brown SP | HOU

Astros' Hunter Brown: Back from injured list

Brown (shoulder) has been reinstated from the 60-day IL Tuesday.

After completing four rehab assignments and building up to 78 pitches in one start, Brown is back with the big-league club for the first time since being placed on the injured list April 5. Prior to that, the 27-year-old had made just two starts, yet racked up 17 strikeouts. Houston will get a much-needed addition and boost to their starting rotation which has been killed by injuries all season long. Collin Price was optioned to Triple-A in order to make room for Brown on the active roster. Brown will be Tuesday's starter against Detroit.

  • Ryan Sloan SP | SEA

Mariners' Ryan Sloan: Promotion not imminent

Sloan is not part of the Mariners' "immediate plans," Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Sloan's 4.44 ERA at Double-A Arkansas is a tad bloated thanks to a couple clunkers, but he boasts a 58:12 K:BB over 46.2 innings in his 11 starts. The 20-year-old right-hander is in the Mariners' plans for later this summer, per Jude, but Seattle already has six viable starting pitchers at the major-league level and fellow prospect Kade Anderson could also be ahead of Sloan in the pecking order.

  • Kade Anderson SP | SEA

Mariners' Kade Anderson: Not in immediate plans for Mariners

Anderson is not part of the Mariners' "immediate plans," Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Anderson's first 11 starts in pro ball couldn't have gone much better, as he's collected a microscopic 1.13 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 82:7 K:BB over 55.2 innings with Double-A Arkansas. However, while the Mariners do expect Anderson to contribute in the majors at some point this season, a big-league debut for the top prospect is not imminent. Seattle already has six capable starting pitchers at the major-league level, complicating the timeline for Anderson's debut, but there could come a point when the southpaw forces the issue.

  • Hagen Smith SP | CHW

White Sox's Hagen Smith: Nursing shoulder impingement

Smith will be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a left shoulder impingement, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Smith will require two weeks to get ramped back up following the shutdown period, so he's looking at four weeks away from games in a best-case scenario. The left-hander had seemed close to getting his first opportunity at the major-league level, but that will not happen anytime soon now. Smith has collected a 4.67 ERA and 77:36 K:BB over 52 innings covering 14 starts with Triple-A Charlotte in 2026.

  • Jake Bennett SP | BOS

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Handed another start

Bennett is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Currently in the midst of his second stint with the Red Sox of the season, Bennett has reached five innings in each of his first three MLB starts, but he's delivered poor ratios (5.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 4.6 K-BB%). He'll get another chance Wednesday to stake his claim to a more permanent stay in the Boston rotation, taking on a Blue Jays squad that has struggled against left-handed pitching this season (.292 wOBA, 27th in MLB).

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Royals' Seth Lugo: Continuing to throw since IL move

Lugo (concussion) has continued to take part in a throwing progression since being placed on the 7-day injured list Friday, MLB.com reports.

Though a CT scan came back clean after Lugo was forced out of his start last Wednesday against the Rangers when he was struck in the head by a line drive, the Royals deactivated him a couple days later after he developed a headache. Since he's not being shut down from throwing, Lugo seems to be making good progress in his recovery, but he'll still need to clear all phases of the concussion protocol before the Royals activate him. Lugo would appear to have a chance at being ready to make a start at some point during the Royals' upcoming three-game series with the Cardinals that runs from Thursday through Sunday.

  • Mitch Spence SP | KC

Royals' Mitch Spence: Sent to Triple-A

The Royals optioned Spence to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was called up to make a spot start Monday against the Nationals, and he'll return to Omaha after surrendering six runs across four innings. Spencer has given up six runs in both of his big-league appearances this season and has also struggled to a 6.54 ERA across 42.2 innings at Triple-A.

  • Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Cleared for rehab start

Tiedemann (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday, MLB Pipeline reports.

It will be Tiedemann's first official game appearance in nearly two years, as he had Tommy John surgery in July 2024 and then had a setback with his elbow during spring training. The talented but injury-prone lefty has totaled just 140 innings in the minors since being drafted by Toronto in 2021. Tiedemann will eventually be assignment to Triple-A Buffalo following the conclusion of his rehab assignment, and he could help the Blue Jays out sometime after the All-Star break if all goes well.
