Devils' Jack Hughes: Scores goal in preseason debut
Hughes potted an even-strength goal on four shots and went plus-1 in 18:20 of ice time in Monday's 3-2 preseason win over the Rangers.
Hughes has played in no more than 62 regular-season games in each of the last three years, though he finished with exactly 27 goals and at least 70 points during those campaigns. The 25-year-old has the talent to be a 100-point player -- he had 99 points across 78 regular-season games in 2022-23 -- but staying healthy has been a problem for Hughes so far in his career. While that's always a concern for fantasy managers, there's no denying the 2019 No. 1 overall pick is a high-end fantasy asset when he's in the lineup.

Devils' Timo Meier: Two point against Rangers
Meier scored an even-strength goal on four shots, added an assist and went plus-1 in Monday's 3-2 exhibition win over the Rangers.
Meier set up Nico Hischier in the second period before scoring an unassisted goal in the final minute of the same frame. The 29-year-old Meier is coming off a relatively disappointing season -- he accounted for 24 goals, 44 points and a minus-16 rating over 77 games in 2025-26. If the Devils want to get back to the postseason, they will certainly need more production from Meier, who should receive top-six minutes while working with one of the power-play units this year.

Devils' Jake Allen: Faces only three shots in preseason debut
Allen stopped all three shots he faced in Monday's 3-2 preseason win over the Rangers.
Allen played the first period of Monday's contest before giving way to Nico Daws for the rest of the game. Unless the Devils bring in another netminder at some point during the 2026-27 season, Allen should receive the bulk of the starts for a team that is expected to return to the postseason after missing out in 2025-26.

Devils' Jake Allen: Poised to start Monday
Allen is expected to protect the home net in Monday's exhibition contest against the Rangers, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Allen is poised to get the nod after being the first goalie off at Monday's morning skate. He posted a 17-17-2 record with one shutout, a 2.74 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 37 appearances during the 2025-26 regular season. The veteran netminder could begin the 2026-27 campaign as the Devils' primary option between the pipes, but he could face competition for starts from Nico Daws and David Rittich.

Devils' David Rittich: Concedes one goal in preseason opener
Rittich allowed one goal on 24 shots during Sunday's 2-1 preseason win over the Islanders.
Rittich defended the home crease against his former team during the Devils' preseason opener, and he performed admirably while playing the entire game. Across 30 regular-season appearances with the Islanders last year, he went 14-10-3 with a 2.76 GAA and .894 save percentage. He'll presumably compete with Jake Allen for work in the crease early in the 2026-27 regular season.

Devils' David Rittich: Facing former team Sunday
Rittich will start Sunday's preseason game against the Islanders, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
For his debut with New Jersey, Rittich will have the chance to face the Islanders, for whom he played last season. The 34-year-old netminder was a decent backup option in 2025-26, as he posted a 14-10-3 record, a 2.76 GAA and an .894 save percentage across 30 regular-season games for the Isles. The veteran netminder is competing for a larger role this preseason against Jake Allen.

Devils' Stefan Noesen: Back in action Thursday
Noesen (knee) was in action for the first day of training camp Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Noesen has been sidelined since Jan. 8 versus the Penguins, missing the final 38 games of the 2025-26 campaign due to his knee injury. Even when healthy last year, the veteran center wasn't offering much offensively, generating a mere seven points in 38 regular-season tilts. Even with his injury concerns behind him, Noesen is far from a lock to play on a nightly basis and could find himself serving as a healthy scratch periodically.

Devils' Jonas Siegenthaler: Participating in first day of camp
Siegenthaler (undisclosed) was on the first defensive pairing for Thursday's practice session on the first day of training camp, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Siegenthaler missed the 2026 IIHF World Championship over the summer due to an undisclosed injury, but he appears to have moved past the issue in time for the start of training camp. The 29-year-old appeared in all 82 regular-season games for the Devils last year and recorded no goals, 16 assists, 135 blocked shots, 92 hits and 48 PIM while averaging 19:29 of ice time.

Devils' Evan Rodrigues: Healthy going into camp
Rodrigues (finger) is good for the start of training camp, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Thursday.
Rodrigues missed the Panthers' final 11 games and finished the 2025-26 campaign on long-term injured reserve. He had 11 goals and 31 points in 69 regular-season appearances with Florida in 2025-26. Now with the Devils following an offseason trade, Rodrigues participated in Thursday's line rushes alongside Arseny Gritsyuk and Dawson Mercer, though those might not be his linemates when the campaign starts.

Devils' Luke Hughes: Preparing for season
Hughes (undisclosed) was on the ice for Thursday's training camp session, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Hughes missed the final four games of the regular season due to his undisclosed injury, but he appears to be no worse for wear. Prior to getting hurt, the blueliner was struggling offensively, going 13 games without finding the back of the net while managing just four helpers. While he's unlikely to be a Norris Trophy contender, Hughes should be able to get back over the 40-point threshold with a full 84-game schedule.

Devils' Arseny Gritsyuk: On the ice Thursday
Gritsyuk (upper body) participated in Thursday's training camp session, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Gritsyuk played in 66 regular-season games as a rookie last year, recording 13 goals and 18 assists, including five power-play points. If the 25-year-old winger can stay healthy this year, he should be capable of reaching both the 20-goal and 50-point thresholds, especially if he can secure more opportunities with the man advantage.

Devils' Johnny Kovacevic: Limited action to start camp
Kovacevic (knee) will be a limited participant to start New Jersey's training camp.
Kovacevic underwent a minor procedure in his right knee during the 2025-26 offseason, so he'll ramp up to playing shape slowly during training camp. The 29-year-old blueliner is coming off a season where he appeared in 34 regular-season games, compiling eight assists, 30 shots on net, 57 hits and 39 blocked shots. Once he's back to full strength, he'll likely battle for an everyday role against New Jersey's other right shot defensemen, such as Brett Pesce and Declan Chisholm.

Devils' Nick Bjugstad: Slated to miss 4-6 months
The Devils announced Thursday that Bjugstad underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle last week and will be sidelined for approximately 4-6 months.
Bjugstad sustained his injury in early September while doing offseason training, and he'll be unavailable for a sizable portion of the 2026-27 campaign after undergoing surgery. He made 61 regular-season appearances between the Blues and Devils last year and recorded six goals, three assists, 108 hits, 33 blocked shots and 33 PIM while averaging 10:56 of ice time. Given his return timetable, it appears as though Bjugstad will be sidelined until at least mid-January at the earliest, with the potential that his absence extends later into the season.

Devils' Jesper Bratt: Solidified in leadership group
Bratt was named an assistant captain for the Devils on Wednesday.
Bratt has worn an 'A' before, but this solidifies his place in the Devils' leadership group. The 28-year-old has been a success story for the team since he was a sixth-round selection in 2016. While he had a bit of a down year in 2025-26 with 22 goals and 49 assists over 82 games, with 71 being his lowest point total in five years, he's poised to play a strong all-around role in 2026-27. He has 80-point potential if he can bounce back.

Devils' Luke Evangelista: Gets five-year extension
Evangelista signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract extension with the Devils on Tuesday.
Evangelista was traded to New Jersey from Nashville on Sept. 1. The 24-year-old is now locked in as a core part of the Devils' forward group before ever playing a game for his new team. After a 56-point regular season in 2025-26, Evangelista should benefit from having a bit more talent around him this year. Expect another step forward from the playmaking winger as long as he sees steady top-six minutes.

Devils' Luke Evangelista: Flipped to New Jersey
Evangelista was traded to the Devils from the Predators on Tuesday in exchange for a conditional first-round pick and a second-round pick, both in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.
It's a bit of a surprise that the Predators are parting with Evangelista, who put up a career-high 56 points (12 goals, 44 assists) in 81 regular-season games in 2025-26. The 24-year-old winger held out of camp last fall before signing a two-year contract, so he'll be playing for a new deal with the Devils throughout 2026-27. Expect Evangelista to slot into a middle-six role, and the playmaker should also be an option to see power-play minutes. His fantasy value gets a slight bump by moving to a stronger offense, but since his offense heavily relies on assists, he'll need to click with his new teammates quickly to make good on that upgrade in surroundings.

Devils' Brett Pesce: Will be healthy at start of 2026-27
Pesce (lower body) is healthy and has been able to undergo his usual offseason training, Kristy Flannery of The Hockey News reports Thursday.
Pesce is participating in the Shoulder Check Showcase, which further proves he's feeling healthy. The defenseman was limited to a career-low 37 games in 2025-26, posting just seven points with 45 shots on net and 80 blocked shots over 37 appearances. Pesce should fill a shutdown role in the Devils' top four to begin 2026-27, but he's now missed the 20-point mark in three straight years, so he doesn't carry much offensive upside.

Devils' Colin White: Signs two-way deal
White agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Thursday.
White failed to get into an NHL game last season, playing exclusively for AHL San Jose while logging 46 regular-season games and tallying 21 goals and 27 helpers. If the 2015 first-round pick can show that kind of offensive upside again in 2026-27, he should find himself on the short list of potential call-ups for the Devils this year.

Devils' Topias Vilen: Secures two-way deal
Vilen inked a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Wednesday.
Vilen appeared in two regular-season games last year in which he posted one block and a plus-1 rating while averaging 15:28 of ice time. Even with a new contract in hand, the 23-year-old blueliner will be hard-pressed to break into the NHL full time next year. As such, he figures to be a relative non-factor in fantasy contests.

Devils' Anthony Mantha: Secures two-year pact
Mantha agreed to terms on a two-year, $9.5 million contract with New Jersey on Wednesday.
Mantha racked up 33 goals and 31 assists, setting new personal bests in both categories, across 81 regular-season games with the Penguins in 2025-26. He also tied his previous career high with 13 power-play points. With the Devils, the 31-year-old winger should be in the mix for a top-six role and power-play minutes.
